Heads 154 Not Out Helps Australia Thrash England

Head's 154 not out helps Australia thrash England

brilliant knock from opener steers hosts to innings-and-14-run win in second Ashes Test

Travis Head hit a brilliant 154 not out as Australia thrashed England by an innings and 14 runs in the second Ashes Test in Adelaide on Monday.

The opener's knock helped Australia reach 473 all out in their first innings, a lead of 237 runs. England were then bowled out for 192 in their second innings, with Pat Cummins taking 4-33.

The victory gives Australia a 2-0 lead in the five-match series, and they will now head to Melbourne for the third Test on Boxing Day.

Head's innings was the cornerstone of Australia's victory.

The left-hander batted for more than seven hours, hitting 18 fours and three sixes. He shared a century partnership with Marnus Labuschagne (103) and a 70-run stand with Steve Smith (54) to help Australia build a commanding lead.

England's bowlers struggled to contain Head, with James Anderson (1-109) and Stuart Broad (1-101) both going wicketless.

Cummins was the pick of the bowlers in England's second innings.

The fast bowler took 4-33, including the wickets of openers Rory Burns (5) and Haseeb Hameed (4).

Jhye Richardson (2-39) and Nathan Lyon (2-41) also chipped in with wickets, as England were bowled out for less than 200 for the third time in the series.

The victory gives Australia a commanding lead in the series.

With a 2-0 lead, Australia are now in a strong position to retain the Ashes.

England, meanwhile, will need to improve significantly if they are to avoid a 5-0 whitewash.
